Putting on the Glitz!
Getting ready for New Years can be quite intimidating. Here is an easy way to ensure your look will truly sparkle this New Years Eve. First start with a festive dress that has a bit of glitz like our Line and Dot Sequin Raglan Sleeve Dress. Add a sparkly evening bag, some slick pumps, a fur chubby and you are ready to celebrate in style. Oh yeah, don’t forget the bubbly! Wishing you a festive and fashionable New Years 2013!

Opposites Attract
There’s nothing like watching the Spring runways when it’s cold and chilly outside. Not only does it give us a sneak peek into seeing all the new trends, it also gets us in the mood for the new season here at Joyus! One of our favorite Spring trends that we can’t wait to get our hands on is the check pattern and the newer, more graphic black & white look. From the runway to the street, mixed prints and patterns will be big for Spring. We hope that the photos above will give you a little inspiration for the season that’s almost here! And don’t forget to follow our blog to see more!

Kelly’s Holiday Picks
Not sure how to “amp up your glam” for the holidays? When the weather is cold outside, your coat really needs to make a statement, so I always start with an awesome topper. Next, throw on a pair of great gloves, a statement shoe and some eye-catching accessories and your look will truly sparkle! Here are my top picks and the good news is that most of them are available here on Joyus. So everyone, let’s have a fashionable holiday!
xo,
Kelly

Slim Down Your Suitcase
We can’t lie. We’re bad packers. No matter how hard we try, there’s just never enough room for all of our clothes, shoes, hair supplies, makeup…the list goes on. However, here are 5 tips collected from the Joyus team about how to actually fit into your luggage.
1. Pack clothes that match and go heavy on neutrals. That way you can mix and match items in your suitcase without having to pack complete outfits for each day of your trip.
2. Wear your biggest items. Don’t try to stuff boots or a coat into your suitcase. Wear it on the plane!
3. Make a list. Get organized, and you’ll be surprised at how much room you’ll free up.
4. Glad Press and Seal. Instead of including a bulky bottle, create individual use toiletries. Just squirt one shower’s worth of shampoo or face wash onto a sheet of press and seal, lay another sheet on top and seal all the way around. Throw a bunch into a ziplock bag, and you’ve saved loads of space.
5. Limit shoes. They are space stealers. You don’t need them all. Just pick a few versatile ones.
And if all else fails… do the sit (on your suitcase) and zip!
Get your Glitz On!
Designers are letting loose with embellishments this Fall season. Intricate embroidery, floral appliqués, rhinestone studs, and intricate beading are some of the key trends influencing this insurgence of this new “glamoured glitz” look. Embrace this new trend by pairing some of our statement pieces here on Joyus with your favorite holiday frocks!

These Bootights Are Made For Walkin’
Here is a video of Nancy Sinatra strutting her stuff. It is sure to put a smile on your face! I used this video for inspiration when putting together the looks for the Bootights shoot. This video was shot in 1966 way before the invention of bootights, but I know these women would have benefitted from them! Seriously, bootights have changed the way I feel about walking in boots. They are truly the first pair of comfortable tights I have ever owned. Ladies…start walking!

Fashionable Words of Wisdom
As a designer/stylist, I spend a lot of time not just thinking about what is fashionable, but actually what is fashion. Here’s what Coco thinks, and she ought to know!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!!! As I work on my recap from New York Fashion Week, I thought I would share some fashion eye candy. ”Women are absolutely mad for shoes” states my favorite fashion guru, Bill Cunningham. I couldn’t agree more. Hope you enjoy!

Zoë Ruderman is the Senior Style Editor for PeopleStyleWatch.com, where she covers fashion and beauty, everything from award shows to Fashion Week, works on half a dozen social media platforms, helps to curate shopable content on the site, and ogles the racks of clothing often parked outside her office. When she’s not at PSW, she’s busy putting stamps in her passport, feeding her book-a-week habit and impressing everyone with her knowledge of pretty much every hip-hop song (in English and Spanish). Zoë hails from a suburb of Boston. She studied at the University of Delaware then received her Masters in Journalism from the University of Barcelona. She currently lives in the East Village, where she makes it a goal to try as many restaurants as possible.
To get to know Zoe a little better, we asked her a few fun questions about her life, her style, and her celebrity crush…
What’s your fashion secret weapon?
A belt! In my opinion, a belt can only do good things for an outfit. It instantly creates a waist and an hourglass silhouette. And of course, a statement necklace, which has the power to turn the most basic outfit into something really special and chic. I love one with big beads or mixed textures, like leather and metallics. In terms of shopping, my fashion secret weapon is patience. I have found some seriously amazing pieces (a brand new Halston heritage animal-print dress for $60, originally $495!) because I had the patience to look through packed racks at a thrift store or consignment shop.
What’s one thing you never leave home without?
Physician’s Formula pressed powder bronzer. I’ve been using it for 10 years, making it the longest relationship I’ve ever had with a beauty product. I used to live in a sixth floor walkup and if I got to the bottom of the stairs in the morning and realized it wasn’t in my bag, I’d walk back up to get it.
And I rarely leave home without putting on a gold Helen Ficalora “Z” necklace, a gift from my boyfriend.
Who’s your celebrity crush?
Judge me if you want, but I fell hard for Leonardo DiCaprio in middle school—and the crush hasn’t waned since. My celebrity style crush right now is definitely Miranda Kerr. She’s a pro at mixing hard-to-pull-off trends without looking like she’s trying to hard.

What’s the best part about working at PSW?
The team. Everyone is so hard-working, smart and really, really, funny.
What’s the best part about working with Joyus?
It’s been so fun to be a part of the process from conception to final product, and to see everything that goes into those one and half minutes of video, from choosing the products, shooting with Joyus’s awesome production team (they just might rival my team in terms of sense of humor), and seeing the beautiful editing then the positive response from viewers.

FALL FOCUS: Cobalt Blue
My love affair with the color cobalt blue goes back to when I first laid eyes on an Yves Klein Table Bleue. Seen above, it’s a Plexiglass table filled with IKB (International Klein Blue) Pigment. The blue color is all you see. True electric blue in what seems like a limitless depth. I have been smitten with this color (and Klein) ever since.
I was thrilled to see cobalt blue electrifying the runways for the Fall 2012 season. Seen on everything from coats to dresses, trouser to blouses, and the most fabulous accessories, this color will truly amplify your wardrobe for the upcoming fall season! We brought you cobalt blue on Joyus last week in our Unstructured Blazer video (it was a big hit, I might add). We will be offering other items in this artistic, eye-catching color in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled. Actually, how could you miss it?

Craftsmanship Makes all of the Difference
Although I am the Home & Lifestyle Host at Joyus I love to look at fashion and watch how interior design is inspired by what comes down the runway. I also appreciate well made things. I am a huge fan of Hermes, so when we were able to attend the coolest event called Hermes’ Festival des Metiers; A Rendez-vous with Hermes Craftsmen I couldn’t wait. It was absolutely incredible to see the amount of care, pride and handwork that goes into each and every Hermes product. We were able to chat with the Artisans themselves and watch as they worked, the intricacy and precision with which they handled each detail was fascinating…
Of course, I am partial to this bag but since I have an extra “e” in my name I think Kelly Sparks (our Fashion Guru) needs this one. He was working on a gorgeous cobalt blue bag while we were there.
So much of fashion inspires interior design - and when great craftsmanship comes together with great design I’m all in.
Channel Your Inner Rock Star
You might not know this about me, but I have a secret rock and roll side. I might be a mom of two but I still love to cut loose and see new bands. This weekend I attended Outside Lands here in San Francisco and had the most amazing time. Not only do I love staying connected to what is going on in the music industry, I LOVE to see what all the happening people are wearing!
Leather and rock-and-roll have always gone together like Jagger and Richards, but the fashion takeaway this weekend is that leather is back and more chic than ever. The new way to wear leather is to pair it with softer, more feminine items like silk blouses, vintage floras, or even a pair it with a silk dress. Alison Mosshart, the female counterpart in the band The Kills paired her awesome leather moto with a striped silk blouse. Okay, could she be any cooler?
The Vegan Leather Jacket from Blank NYC that we are offering here on Joyus is totally going to enable you to channel your inner rock star! If you need more convincing, here are some photos of fabulous ladies at Outside Lands all sporting their leather in unique and feminine (but rock-and-roll) ways. Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed being there!

Fashion Minds Think Alike
The fashion crystal ball has struck here at Joyus once again! Much to my surprise the Bella Dahl shirts that we are offering today on Joyus coincide directly with the New York Times “Street Style” section. This weeks theme: Chambray! What are the chances of that? As you know, I believe the chambray shirt is an essential key item in every gals closet, so make sure you snatch one up quick here on Joyus as they are going fast. Notice the model in the NYT’s article is actually wearing the Bella Dahl shirt we are offering! Now how cool is that?
